Finding a therapist
Trying to choose a therapist is stressful, especially with the amount of options available. Even knowing what type of therapist to look for can be overwhelming. That’s why it is important I am the right fit for you. We can meet for an initial one-off session to see if we could work well together. My main focus is to create a relaxed, collaborative safe space. I don’t like the idea of the therapist holding all of the power and controlling the sessions. You will have agency when working with me, as we are working together to create the changes you are looking for.
A Clinial Psychologist has to go through extensive training over a lengthy period of time. For me, this included a three year undergraduate degree, a one year master’s degree, and then a three year doctorate. During this and alongside it, you are trained in a variety of evidence-based psychological therapy models. I believe this is what separates clinical psychologists from therapists/counsellors that are trained in one model. One therapy model does not fit all. I therefore draw from a variety of therapy models dependent on the uniqueness of the individual in front of me. Sessions are tailored to you, and I am flexible with the frequency we meet and how we meet, be it face to face or virtual. There are no contracts.
